  • HamiMommy - 1.77 Million Subscribers

  • Zoe 조에 Cafe Vlog - 2.39 Million Subscribers

  • Jihyunkkung - 2.69 Million Subscribers

What is their Content?

A thriving community of Korean YouTubers has emerged, centering their content on the theme of tranquil daily living. The majority of these creators focus on crafting delightful cafe drinks, showcasing home-cooking prowess, and imparting cleaning tips, while others document their own everyday lives. The hallmark of their content lies in its relaxed and easygoing style, which resonates profoundly with a substantial and dedicated subscriber base.

Content Examples

HamiMommy - vlogs, day/night routines, cleaning

Jihyunkkung - cooking/cleaning vlogs

Zoe's Cafe Vlog - cafe vlogs, daily activities, GRWM.

Although the creators of these YouTube channels are from Korea, their viewership extends far beyond the country's borders. People from all around the world watch their content, not just those in Korea. The videos mostly rely on visuals rather than spoken language, but they provide subtitles in various languages, making it easier for non-Korean speakers to understand the content.

These channels focus on showcasing the simple aspects of life, creating a calming and welcoming environment for their viewers. They aim to make their audience feel at ease and comfortable while watching their videos.

Who’s the Audience?

Research Questions

  • Does consistent posting influence the number of views on a YouTube video?

  • Does it matter how many times they post each month?

  • Do these accounts have similar aesthetics? How do they differ?

During data collection, I focused on the following aspects:

  1. Number of posts each month (November to January).

  2. Average number of views per video.

  3. Identification of the most popular videos for each month.

  4. Identification of the least popular videos for each month.

My main emphasis was on examining how the frequency of uploads influenced the number of views received by each video.

Account Upload Each Month

Average Views Each Month

The data analysis revealed a notable trend: Each of the channels that post more videos each month tend to receive fewer views. Specifically, accounts that exceed 3-5 videos per month experienced a decline in viewership. Moreover, those posting more than 6 videos per month exhibited a substantial drop in views.

Conversely, channels maintaining a consistent number of uploads saw more stable and consistent views. It appears that an excessive volume of content negatively impacts viewership, whereas a balanced and steady approach yields better results.

(You can see a decline in Zoe’s channel views due to inconsistent content creation ex. changing from cafe vlogs to daily life outside.)

What does that mean?

Research Question Answered

Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that consistent postings on YouTube indeed influence the amount of views received on each video. Using HamiMommy as an example, the channel with the fewest subscribers but the most views per month, and maintaining a medium number of posts per month, showcases that publishing content consistently can positively impact the number of views each video receives.

The accounts within this community may exhibit certain commonalities in terms of aesthetics, such as a focus on minimalism, calming visuals, and a relaxed atmosphere. This consistency reinforces the theme of peaceful daily living that attracts their audience.

The data suggests that channels with a steady and balanced approach to posting, rather than overwhelming their audience with too much content, tend to achieve better viewership results.

Therefore, maintaining a consistent content and posting schedules can lead to improved engagement and viewership for YouTube channels.
